SICamp Caucasus: The Movie

Tuesday, April 20th, 2010

Check out this cool 10-minute documentary on Social Innovation Camp Caucasus produced by the Open Society Georgia Foundation, one of the main sponsors of the 9-10 April event in Tbilisi.

The camp, the first of its kind in the region, brought together young activists, bloggers, developers, designers, and other creative/engaged types, mainly from Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, to speed-develop functional, sustainable online tools to tackle social issues ranging from environmental degredation to sexual health. (TOL was also a sponsor of the camp, and I served as a judge on the panel that chose the winning project.)

Who said it is impossible to gain popularity via new media in country with low level of online media development? Especially in Caucasus... One guy from Mingrelia, western Georgia have been caught by traffic police and as always recorded by cameras and showed on TV, that everybody laughed at him. Then his video appeared in YouTube and have got 11.150 viewers in a country with near-to-zero new media development! That's incredible.
So next step was taking him to very popular show. Last step - he has got contract with country-wide TV channel! Perfect work Koxora!
